A 31-year-old mine worker, Charles James, was last week trapped and died after the mine shaft he was working in caved in.

The incident occurred on December 30 at Kupenyamhuri Mine, Sarahata, in Raffingora.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident.

According to the police, James of Minehana Farm, who was employed at the mine, entered the shaft and discovered it was flooded with water.

James reportedly asked for a scooping bucket. When his workmate, Tichaona Brian Nyoni, was about to hand him the bucket, the shaft suddenly collapsed.

Nyoni attempted to rescue James, but the shaft further caved in. Police from Mutorashanga attended the scene and retrieved the body.
