Amateur golfers in the city of Bulawayo will converge this Saturday to participate in the first major tournament of the year at Harry Allen Golf Club.

Club captain Mufaro Chivonivoni said yesterday: “We are having our first major tournament of the year which is going to be sponsored by Trust Bank. It has been organised by former members of Harry Allen who now reside outside the country,” he said.

The sponsorship was sourced by former members of the club who include Albert Shoko, Themba Ndlovu and Chris Dembetembe and is expected to attract 15 former Harry Allen members from outside Zimbabwe.

Chivonivoni said they were looking at about 70 local players participating in the tournament that would be played under the individual stableford format.

“The course is in a very good condition because of the rains. So we expect to have many golfers coming in to participate. There will also be a lot of prizes on the day,” he said.

Expected to take to the greens are Shepherd Huni, Brian Sanangurai, former captain Dumisani Ndlovu, Matthew Ncube, Cleopas Dube, Rodnah Mutasa, Acy Zerf, Linda Rubaya and Lorraine Huwa.
