On the international scene the 48th edition of the Orange Bowl International Golf Championship December 26-30, 2011 played at Biltmore Golf Course, Florida, US, ended in a classic finish.
In the boys’ division the Chilean Junior Champion Juan Cerda had (68, 70, 70, 70), and Thomas Detry of Belgium (72, 69, 68, 69) finished tied on gross scores of 278 (-6). Juan Cerda is therefore the 2011 champion after a dramatic sudden death.
It had to take three holes for him to claim the championship. He made an eagle on the third sudden death hole to settle the duel.
There were 64 players from 35 countries. South Africa, Egypt and Zimbabwe were the only African countries represented.
Grant Hudson and Brett Krog represented Zimbabwe.
The top five positions were 1 Juan Cerda (Chile) -6 (278, 2 Thomas Detry (Belgium) -6 (278), 3 Markus Maukner (Austria) -5 (279), 4 Emil Sogaard (Denmark) -4 (280).
African participants’ positions and scores — tied number 8 Haydn Porteous (South Africa) -1(283), tied 42 Issa Ela (Egypt) +13 (297), 54 Matt Bright (South Africa) +20 (304), 55 Brett Krog (Zimbabwe) (77, 77, 77, 75) +22 (306), 62 Grant Hudson (Zimbabwe) (74, 83, 80, 82) +35 (319).
The Zimbabwean duo did not perform to expectations. However, it’s all over now for 2011.

Great preparation should start now for the 2012.
On the girls division South Korea’s 16 year old Hyo Joo Kim is the 2011 champion wining by 1 stroke after birding two of the last three holes.
On the domestic scene many games which were played during the holidays were friendlies. Club competitions start this weekend. I am sure after the break the first tournaments’ results are going to be interesting.
However, Falcon Golf Club had competitions throughout the holidays except on Christmas Day.
There was an individual Stableford competition on Monday 26th, which was won by 1 M Janyure -37 points winning on a count out, 2 P Mariyacha – 37, 3 L Chigumba -36.
Then the next day on Tuesday there was a medal competition and the winners were 1 E Murungweni -71 net, 2 C Kazembe -72, 3 S Shumba -75, 4 C John -75, 5 L Chigumba -77, 6 M Mabuto-77.
The Saturday, New Year’s eve individual Stableford competition was won by 1 C Kazembe -38 points counting out, 2 P Mariyacha -38. Wingate Golf Club — On New Year’s Eve there was a hole in one at the club.
Rhoda Muridzo-Duthie playing in a family fourball comprising Rhoda’s father Lewis Muridzo Chitengwa, Elias Chitengwa, Rhoda and her husband.
This happened on the 182 metres hole number 13.
This was Rhoda’s first hole-in-one. Her comment on this achievement was: “It was my first time and am very happy because I was playing with my father, brother and husband.”
The father also had a hole-in-one at the same course recently on the 197 metres hole number 6.
