Trinidad Industries, a company that specialises in maintenance and infrastructure rehabilitation has introduced a new specialist activity, dam lining repairs, using HDPE lining material bringing relief to companies that were importing such services from South Africa.

HDPE lining is described as an economic and robust solution for pipeline rehabilitation for corrosive applications such as sour service pipelines Company managing director Paul Mukodzajena said Trinidad recently completed refurbishment of two Hwange Thermal Power Station dams using the HDPE lining material, which prevents water from seeping underground.

“The completion of these dams marks a milestone as it heralds the addition of another specialist activity to the list of other services and products our company provides,” Mukodzajena said.

The two Hwange dams’ lining repairs started in October last year and were completed at the end of 2011.

Mukodzajena said the dams had old brittle rubber, which was laid down in the 1980s and had worn out, leaking water and resulting in the short supply of water needed for power generation.

“It was a marathon task to remove damaged lining from dams, supplying and installation of new HDPE lining material and the construction of the kerbing and the walkways,” he said.

The two Hwange dams cover a combined area of 62 550 square metres and hold in excess of 280 000 cubic metres of water.

Trinidad Industries becomes the first company in the country to provide dam repairs using HDPE lining material, a service much sought after by mines and farms in Zimbabwe.

Before the introduction of the repairing services, Zimbabwean companies, in particular the mining and farming communities, were importing the services from South Africa and other countries.

Trinidad Industries also specialises in maintenance of water treatment plants, tanks, irrigation canals, airport runways and hangars, hatcheries and abattoirs, granaries and silos, dairy plants, tobacco auction floors, acid tank houses, leaking roofs and crocodile farms, among many other services.
