Ocean Mushure — the player at the centre of a wrangle between Monomotapa and Dynamos — yesterday insisted he was joining the reigning league champions.
Mushure who joined his new teammates at Dynamos for a pre-season training session yesterday told NewsDay Sport he ceased to be a Monomotapa player last year after the club failed to pay his signing on fees and other bonuses.
He said he expected to complete his three-year deal move this week after having already signed a pre-contract with the Harare giants. Said Mushure: “I have agreed terms with Dynamos for a three-year contract and if everything goes well, I’m signing for them this week.”
He added: “Monomotapa failed to honour the contract, so they cannot continue to claim me. I signed a three-year deal with them and this was supposed to be my final year.
“They couldn’t pay my signing on fee and my winning bonuses for the first year I played for them,” said Mushure, who was loaned to Motor Action last season.
“They still owe me a balance of $6 000 from the $9 000 signing on fee. In addition, they also owe me $1 200 in winning bonuses. They haven’t given me my loan fee from last year.
“I took my case with the Players’ Status Committee, who declared me a free agent so as far as I’m concerned, that contract is null and void.
I have also taken the case with the Football Union of Zimbabwe (Fuz) and they have also confirmed that I’m a free agent,” said Mushure. Fuz secretary-general Paul Gundani yesterday confirmed having handled Mushure’s case.

“If a player is owed by a club, he has to write to the team who are supposed to respond in 10 days,” said Gundani. “If they fail to respond, the player has the right to advice them he is terminating the contract and that is exactly what happened with Ocean.
“They have failed to pay him his signing on fee and winning bonus, so that contract is null and void. He is a free agent. Monomotapa had engaged us and promised to pay Ocean in instalments. That has not happened since last year. So how long should the player wait before he can get his money?” added Gundani.
Dynamos have already registered Mushure in their Caf Champions League squad, but Monoz are fighting hard to stop the player from completing his move.
The 2009 league champions yesterday wrote to Zifa and the Premier Soccer League as they stepped up efforts to block Mushure from turning out for Dynamos.
Monomotapa argues the Players’ Status Committee that ruled in Mushure’s favour did it without their knowledge. They have vowed to contest the ruling.
