A Harare man is battling for his life in the intensive care unit at Parirenyatwa Hospital after a prostitute tore off one of his testicles in unclear circumstances two days before Christmas.

The lady of the night, Dadirai Bhero, of Domboramwari, Epworth, was arrested on Friday last week in Msasa following the intervention of neighbours who heard the man screaming for help.

The name of the victim has not been disclosed by the police neither was the reason for the brutal attack, but the man is reportedly critically ill.

It is alleged on the day in question, Bhero, who is believed to have been the aggressor, was at the man’s residence where the two picked up a fight. The nature of the argument was not disclosed by police.

But during the alleged fight, Bhero is suspected to have grabbed the man’s testicles, pulled them and tore off one of them in the process.

The victim screamed for help and this attracted the attention of the neighbours who rushed to the scene and apprehended Bhero on the spot while the man lay down wriggling in pain. The matter was reported to the police, leading to Bhero’s arrest.

Bhero was not asked to plead when she appeared before provincial magistrate Kudakwashe Jarabini facing a charge of attempted murder on Thursday.

She was remanded in custody to January 11, after prosecutor Molyn Mutamangira opposed bail arguing that Bhero was facing a serious offence for which bail application would only be entertained by the High Court.

The police had also opposed bail saying Bhero was likely to commit a similar offence.
