Bindura-based, stunning 19-year-old beauty, Mellisa Chikerema, was recently crowned Miss Mashonaland Central at a pageant held at the Country Club in Bindura.

Chikerema, who is also a business administration student, walked away with a cash prize of $750 while the first princess Tariro Muoni, a business woman, received a cash prize of $500 and second princess Sasha Katsengwa, a Bindura University student got $300.

The Miss Personality title was scooped by the jovial and bubbly Simbarashe Chirara, a Psychology graduate who walked away $100 richer.

In a tightly-contested competition of beauties from Bindura, Shamva, Mazoe and other surrounding areas, Chikerema stood out among the rest not just as a slender black beauty, but also a beauty with brains.

“I was totally ecstatic when I was announced a the winner. I didn’t expect to win because all the girls were looking so good,” said Chikerema.

She said as the reigning queen for 2012, it was her aim to do the best to help her community and province.

Chikerema said her first aim was to work towards the problem of improper sanitation which was a big problem for a lot of girls in rural areas.

During the fun-filled event Desmond “Stunner” Chidemhe gave the audience a great performance that left them screaming and shouting for more of his hilarious lyrics especially in his songs Godo and Team Hombe.

“What I do in my private life at my home has nothing to do with my work,” said Stunner to his excited fans referring to sex tape that recently leaked and made headlines in the media.

Another upcoming dancehall artist, Cave Man, gave a top-draw performance, which got the audiences excited at his lyrics, style and regalia — which no doubt reminded many of the award winning-Winky D.

The audiences seemed to have fallen in love with Chikerema as they wowed and screamed for her each time she was on the ramp and when she was finally announced as the winner they ecstatically jumped and screamed at her victory.
