A Honde Valley man is in the dock for allegedly raping his eight-year-old daughter, whom he reportedly threatened with unspecified action should she disclose the abuse to anyone.
The suspect is employed at Eastern Highlands farm as a tea picker and stays at the estate’s compound.
He briefly appeared before magistrate Alex Shumba last Friday and was not asked to plead to the rape charges. He was remanded in custody to December 27 this year.
It is alleged on an unknown date, but sometime this month, the alleged rapist woke up in the “dead of night” pretending he wanted to relieve himself.
Instead of going to the toilet, he reportedly headed for the room where his daughter was sleeping, removed the blankets and raped her once.
The court heard when the victim discovered she was being sexually abused by her father she tried to scream, but was threatened with unspecified action if she turned down his demands or told anyone.
After the act, the father allegedly returned to sleep in his bedroom, hoping the crime would die a natural death.
However, on December 13, the eight-year-old daughter narrated her ordeal to a friend who later disclosed the incident to a fellow villager, who wasted no time in immediately reporting the incident at Ruda Police Station, Honde Valley, leading to the arrest of the suspected rapist the same day.
