After a whole year of competition in a tightly contested first-ever Face of Zimbabwe (FOZ) international pageant, a Zimbabwean medical student based in China, Sibo Bero, recently won the public vote to be crowned the 2012 queen.

The young beauty has on several occasions been described by many as a “dead ringer” for the movie, Stomp the Yard American actress Meagan Good and has since received numerous congratulatory messages from the public on her Facebook page.

“The Zimbabwean people have blessed me and I want to thank every single person who wished me well, those that encouraged me, believed in me and especially those that cast their votes for me,” said Bero.

She said she was happy that her supporter’s voices had been heard and now she stood as Face of Zimbabwe for 2012.

One of her friends, Chiedza Muchenje said the beauty was on course to achieve her life-long passion of changing people’s lives using the FOZ platform to raise awareness for children in need.

“I think she is ready for this challenge and I am so delighted that the Zimbabwean people have seen through her beauty into her heart,” said her mother, Lyn Bero.

The overjoyed woman, who could not contain her pride and joy over her daughter’s achievements, said Sibo had been involved in voluntary work at Chinyaradzo Children’s Home from a very young age.

UK-based Ohleen Munyanyi was voted the first runner-up after garnering the second highest number of public votes and the teenager also won the vote of the other contestants to scoop the Beauty with a Purpose prize.

The prize was based on her dedication to FOZ charity work which saw her organise a highly successful talent show at her school to fundraise for children in Zimbabwe.

Thelma Muvirimi, a student based in Durban, South Africa, accrued the third highest number of votes which saw her being accorded FOZ Princess Award.

“We are happy that all the finalists were worthy and committed tourism and charity ambassadors and we couldn’t be more delighted for Sibo Bero who is, in every sense the epitome of Zimbabwean beauty,” said FOZ spokesperson, Lazarus Nyakese.

He said the distinction between Face of Zimbabwe and other pageants was that the winner was chosen by the voting public so in every sense, Sibo was a reflection of Zimbabwean people’s judgment of beauty and they believed the voting public got it right.

With other monthly finalists based in several countries such as the USA, South Africa, New Zealand and the UK among others, the competition which ran for a full year, had seen hundreds of hopefuls apply for a chance to win the coveted crown.

“The FOZ calendar which features all the 12 finalists is expected to be launched before the end of the month,” said Nyakese.

FOZ is an Internet-based competition by UK-based KMG Media, sponsored by World Remit which allows Zimbabweans all over the world to enter. It is an international showcase of Zimbabwe’s beauty, charity and tourism with the prime purpose of marketing Zimbabwe abroad.
