Police in Harare have arrested a suspected serial fraudster who has been masquerading as a medical doctor.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau said the suspect, Pardon Muwengwa, who was masquerading as Dr Sithole, was arrested on December 13 at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

“On 13 December at 1430 hours there was information of a suspicious-looking man at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

“The police were advised and a police officer proceeded to the accounts department at the hospital,” Sabau said.

“Whilst at the accounts department the police officer asked the suspect to identify himself and he said he was Dr Sithole from theatre.”

“He had a stethoscope around his neck so as to look like a genuine doctor.”

He was arrested after police phoned a number on his cellphone and a woman said he knew him as Dr Sithole.

The woman said she had given him $230 so that he could facilitate her placement at the nursing school.
