Women’s University in Africa founder member Professor Hope Sadza yesterday officially launched the Planning Bulletin of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion that seeks to furnish stakeholders with key information to help them in decision-making.

She said the Ministry of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion will be interacting with people from different walks of life to provide relevant information on what will be happening on the ground.

“The main focus of the Planning Bulletin was also to be used to report on the progress made in the implementation of the Medium-Term Plan (MTP)(2011-2015),” she said. “The information we have the closer we get of making our own decision.”

Sadza said the last issue of the Planning Bulletin for 2012 which will be available by year end contains a report on efforts made so far towards the implementation of the MTP.

“I believe the future Planning Bulletin will provide the necessary useful information required by ordinary citizens, government, the business community and the international community at large for decision-making purpose,” she said.

Speaking at the launch, Ministry of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion secretary, Desire Sibanda, said his ministry was engaging with academic institutions to provide a platform where people can research and inform policymakers.

“Very few people research on information and not everyone is aware of the developments in the country.

“We want to be able to research and inform the policymakers and we believe even the country’s economy can be develop too,” said Sibanda.

He said many documents have been presented in the past, but some of the information produced was misleading and not well-researched.

“When it was announced Zimbabwe’s GDP is $3 billion when it was previously at $10 billion so the aim of the planning bulletin is to fill that gap and provide growth,” said Sibanda.

United Developments Programme (UNDP) economic adviser, Udo Etukudo, said UNDP will continue to support the ministry in meeting the critical challenge of co-ordinating development planning in Zimbabwe.

“Specifically we will strengthen our support to strategic planning, particularly around MTP implementation, the process for formulating pro-poor sector strategies linked to MTP and MDG attainment as well as the capacity development of the ministry,” said Etukudo.

He said UNDP believes that these areas are critical to the capacity development of the ministry and their intention was to continue providing technical assistance towards its capacity development.
