Preparations for the Miss Mashonaland West beauty pageant are at an advanced stage with 20 models expected to get into camp this Sunday ahead of the final.

The grand finale — which will be held on December 21 at the Orange Grove in Chinoyi — will see Christabel Zvinavashe, Shanita Mumba, Joice Abrahama, Fiona Hozheri, Petina Namburo, Anita Katsenga, Rosemary Mukucha, Maryann Mashatise, Lilian Mano, Lisa Hwende, Kundai Chiwara, Tawana Kalungu, Mischa Tahwa, Tamary Tamanikwa, Michelle Garwe, Ottilia Amanda, Amanda Kapepu, Tawananyasha Marere, Ruvimbo Vambe and Maria Magogo taking to the ramp for the provincial honours.

Three lucky contestants — the queen and her two princesses — will go on to represent Mashonaland West at the Miss Zimbabwe finale to be held in Harare in February next year.

They will ultimately get a chance to represent Zimbabwe in next year’s Miss World final if they land the Miss Zimbabwe crown.

Extra Large, rhumba outfit BV Labien and DJ Kelly will keep revellers entertained during the event. Pamela Rusere, one of the organisers of the event said, this year’s event was running under the theme: “Proud To Represent Mashonaland West”.

“I believe a person has to be proud of their origin, hence this year’s theme. Contestants this year are mostly students from the farm-rich province of Mashonaland West,” she said.

Former models, Oslie Muringai (Miss Zimbabwe 2004), Sibusisiwe Dube (Miss Bulawayo 2007), reigning Miss Curvy Zimbabwe Tanya Chikuni and Paula Machaya (Miss Universities 2010) are also billed to grace the event.

Meanwhile, the stage is set for the Miss Bulawayo finale which will be held at the Rainbow Hotel President’s Room in Bulawayo on Friday evening.

The much-anticipated show will see over 20 beauties drawn from around Bulawayo competing for the coveted crown to become the country’s top ambassador.

Unfortunately, outgoing Miss Bulawayo, Nadia Gori, will not be present at the event to hand over her crown as she is representing the country at the Miss Tourism International pageant in Malaysia.

The Miss Matabeleland South and Miss Chitungwiza pageants have been held successfully with the Harare Province final scheduled to be held on December 23.
