The adage “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” aptly describes a 21-year-old Penhalonga woman who recently drank a pesticide in protest against her husband’s alleged adulterous affair.

Tandiwe Chirigo (21) drank the pesticide on December 10 after her husband, Fungai Nyakonga, was implicated by neighbours in an extra-marital affair with a fellow villager.

It is alleged on the fateful morning, the couple had a heated exchange before Nyakonga stormed out of the bedroom and headed to the bathroom, leaving his wife fuming.

When he came back she advised him that she had taken a pesticide. Chirigo died before admission at Old Mutare Hospital.

Police spokesperson Leonard Chabata confirmed the incident yesterday.

“People should find amicable ways of solving domestic disputes by seeking counselling from other people before overreacting,” he said. Meanwhile, a tipsy 21-year-old Mutasa man hanged himself from a tree branch following a misunderstanding over food with the family maid on December 9.

Police confirmed that Ngonidzashe Valentine Nyagweta (21) came home from a beer drinking party at around 8pm on December 8. He was not happy with the quantity of food that he was served and thus started to beat the family maid, Ratidzo Magaya (32).

“After realising that she had sustained serious injuries, Nyagweta got out of the house and proceeded to the goat pen where he took a rope and hanged himself,” said Chabata.
