Police have launched a manhunt for a man who fatally struck a Kadoma man with a machete and left his girlfriend seriously injured during a suspected armed robbery.

According to police, the now deceased Joel Dube (29) and his girlfriend Nyasha Nderevhimha (27) were walking from Ingezi Township towards Annex Farm compound on November 23 around 10pm.

Mashonaland West acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera said when the pair was near the farm compound, an unidentified masked man jumped from a tree wielding a machete.

The attacker allegedly struck Dube on the head, before striking Nderevhimha once on the head and right leg resulting in both victims sustaining serious injuries.

The masked man demanded cash and cellphones, but the victims told him they did not have anything.

“The assailant then force-marched the woman to a secluded place where he ordered her to remove her blouse and remain seated. He proceeded to where he had left Dube lying and Nderevhimha took the opportunity to escape to a nearby homestead where she sought help before making a report at Rimuka Police Station.

“Police attended the scene, but Dube had already been ferried to Kadoma General Hospital before he was transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare where he died on November 27 due to the injuries sustained in the attack,” Kohwera said.
