Harry Allen Golf Classic to close off season

-

Amateur golfers from around the country are expected to throng Bulawayo on Saturday for the Harry Allen Classic Golf Tournament.

The tournament will end on Sunday in what is set to be the last major tournament as the curtain comes down on the club’s activities for the year.

The tournament will be played under the medal stroke play format and has been sponsored to the tune of $1 200 by Duraline.

Harry Allen public relations manager Moses Mlalazi said: “We are having our last major tournament of the year. We are looking at having about 120 players coming in. A total of 60 players have already confirmed their participation,” he said.

“All participants should however be Zimbabwe Amateur Golf Association cardholders and they should be affiliated to any club in the country. This tournament usually attracts a lot of people at Harry Allen,” he said.

Women golfers likely to take to the greens are Lorraine Huwa, Margaret Vera, Rodnah Mutasa, Acy Zerf and Linda Rubaya.

Mlalazi said there will be prizes for the winner of the longest drive and the nearest pin in both men and women’s categories.

Tich Chivonivoni from Bindura and Robson Dumane from Hwange are among the golfers from outside Bulawayo who have confirmed participation.

They will be joined by Mlalazi, Mufaro Chivonivoni, and Tawu Paguwa — vice-captain of Harry Allen — as well as Dumisani Ndlovu and Victor Tall from Harry Allen. Thabani Ndlovu, Jonathan Moyo, Ken Moyo and former Highlanders chairman Rodger Muhlwa will also take part.
