The three Media Monitoring Project Zimbabwe (MMPZ) staffers arrested in Gwanda on Monday will spend at least another day in remand prison pending a court ruling on their bail application.

They were arrested for allegedly distributing subversive literature perceived to denigrate President Robert Mugabe at a workshop held in the town two weeks ago,

The trio — Fadzai December, Molly Chimhanda and Gilbert Mabusa — were yesterday sent to back Gwanda Prison after presiding magistrate Douglas Zvenyika indicated he needed more time to consider their application.

Zvenyika is expected to deliver the ruling tomorrow. The three will tomorrow have clocked four days under incarceration after having already spent three nights in police holding cells.

Charges against them are that on November 24, they held an unsanctioned meeting at Gwanda where they allegedly distributed a DVD perceived as subversive and denigrative of the Head of State.

On Tuesday, police in Harare picked up MMPZ director Andy Moyse and briefly detained him after ransacking the media watchdog’s offices and confiscating hundreds of compact discs with information they thought was on the infamous Gukurahundi massacres of the 1980s.
