MDC-T Mbizo district has suspended Councillor Johannes Ngozo from the party after he was brought before the courts on fraud, theft and corruption allegations.

Ngozo faces six charges of fraud, theft and corruption involving over $10 000, which he allegedly collected from home seekers after promising them housing stands. MDC-T district committee has since written a letter to the councilor, who was also its vice chairman notifying him of the suspension.

The letter was copied to the MDC-T Midlands North provincial leadership and the party’s headquarters in Harare.

Adam Machisvo, the party’s district chairperson confirmed the suspension saying it was imposed after a meeting of his committee.

Machisvo claimed MDC-T had evidence showing the councillor had abused his office by taking money from desperate home seekers.

But Ngozo said the district committee had no powers to suspend him from the party after he was elevated to the post of secretary for education, sports and culture in the province.

His backers claimed Ngozo was being victimised by Mbizo MP Settlement Chikwinya because he feared the councillor would challenge him in the next elections.

“Ngozo was positioned to take over from Chikwinya in the next elections as MP for Mbizo,” said a source.

“We suspect that the MP was now feeling the heat and has moved to try and block Ngozo by influencing people to raise false allegations against him.”

However, Chikwinya yesterday denied the allegations saying he could not influence the police to charge Ngozo.

“While I sympathise with the councillor and his family, he will have his day in court where he will prove his innocence,” Chikwinya said.
