BINGA — A 22-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy sometime between 2008 and July this year stunned the court on Monday when he claimed a ghost forced him to commit the offence.

Ignatius Muleya (22) of Manjolo area in Binga pleaded guilty to sodomy charges when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate, Stephen Ndlovu.

The magistrate sentenced him to 12 months in jail. Two months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

It is the State case that since 2008 up to July this year, Muleya would sodomise the boy and threaten to beat him up if he dared to spill the beans.

However, the boy’s parents got wind of the matter and alerted the police, leading to Muleya’s arrest.

“I was haunted by a ghost that forced me to commit the crime,” Muleya told the court in mitigation. Bruce Maphosa prosecuted.
