CHINHOYI — Zanu PF has allegedly stepped up moves to destroy the MDC-T in Mashonaland West Province with the recent launch of a youth body believed to be linked to its planned violent election campaign.
The Zimbabwe Revolutionary Volunteers Front (Revof), a Zanu PF outfit, was established ostensibly to champion youth volunteerism and empowerment through various projects around the country.
But investigations by NewsDay have revealed that Revof is a Zanu PF youth arm which would report directly to the Zanu PF commissariat department.
Speaking at the official launch of the organisation in Mashonaland West, Revof chairperson Godwin Mureriwa said the body’s vision was anchored on volunteerism which was the cornerstone of any successful revolution.
“As young people, we are the vanguard of the revolution. Revof seeks to sustain and fulfil Ambuya Nehanda’s prophecy that ‘my bones will rise’. It is all about fighting for our liberation and defending the gains of that struggle. Volunteerism is central in that fight,” he said.
Mureriwa castigated non-governmental organisations and labelled them “foreign-funded mushrooms promoting the interests of Western powers that vilify and demonise President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF leadership”.
A Zanu PF insider told NewsDay: “This so-called Revof is a purely Zanu PF project that is meant to be a conduit through which the party would recruit youths particularly the jobless youths and school leavers for orientation and military training at youths bases.
They would then be deployed from the bases to different parts of the country to ‘convince’ people into voting for the party. The youth groups would operate just like the Mbare-based Chipangano.”

Set up last year, Revof has branches in Midlands and Mashonaland East provinces.
The recent event at Chinhoyi’s Cooksey Hall was attended by war veterans, collaborators, ex-detainees and restrictees, and National Youth Service graduates.
Youth in Farming and Children of Freedom Fighters’ Association were also among the Zanu PF-aligned organisations represented at the gathering of nearly 200 people.
