All roads lead to Harare today where football experts converge at Mandel Training Centre in Marlborough to come up with the top eleven Castle Lager Premier Soccer League footballers.

This year’s selection is different from that of past years, which was conducted only by sports writers from different media houses.

The selection this year will attract a panel which will include sports journalists, Premiership coaches, representatives from Footballers Union of Zimbabwe and the Zifa Soccer Referees’ Association.

Several names have been peddled to feature in the calendar of stars, with the Footballer of the Year to be unveiled next year together with the first and second runner-up, walking away with $5 000, $3 000 and $2 000 respectively.

The Footballer of the Year Award is likely to land at the league champions Dynamos, where there is Washington Arubi, who is also likely to scoop the Goalkeeper of the Year Award.

Arubi faces stiff challenge from FC Platinum shot stopper Tafadzwa Dube, with another contender in defender George Magariro from Dynamos.

Top goal-scorer Rodreck Mutuma has already scooped the Golden Boot.

Last year’s Footballer of the Year — FC Platinum’s Charles Sibanda — although having had a good season, put a dent to his campaign by being found guilty by a Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee for assaulting Chicken Inn gaffer Adam Ndlovu at Luveve Stadium.

Coaches Calisto Pasuwa from Dynamos and Hwange’s Tennant Chilumba are in the race for the Coach of the Year Award.
