Nkanyiso Sibanda of Bulawayo and Falcon College’s Bryn Langley clash in the quarter-finals of the GC Tennis Centre Singles League tournament at the Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) this morning.

Sibanda is favourite to win the tournament. Langley won the Under-18 Boys, Tarryn-Leigh De Souza Memorial Tennis Tournament in September after beating Friedlander Kadzombe of Gifford High School 6-4, 7-5 at Girls’ College.

Sibanda came out tops in Pool C in the round-robin stage with 14 points after winning all seven games while Langley made it to the quarter-finals after winning the play-offs at BAC last week.

Langley was third in Pool B to qualify for the play-offs and beat Adam Joelson 8-6 and Raggs Joelson 6-1 to pull through to the quarter-final.

Rennie Chikunichawa of Bulawayo clashes with Gavin Magenga of Midlands State University in the other quarter-final. Chikunichawa was position one in Pool A with 14 points, while Magenga came out on the second spot in Pool C with 10 points.

The other quarter-final pits Thesly Mafunda of GC, winner of Pool B with 12 points and Adam Joelson, who took position two in the play-offs after beating Raggs 6-3 and losing 6-8 to Langley.

Adam was position three in Pool A to qualify for the play-offs.

The last quarter-final has Keletso Malane — number two in Pool A with 12 points — and Stephen Chimwanza, who got eight points to take position two in Pool B.

The semi-finals will be played later in the day while the champion of the league will be decided on on Sunday.
