Motor Action coach Joey Antipas has vowed to atone for his team’s failure to defend the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) title by beating Dynamos in the $1m Mbada Diamonds Cup final at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Antipas, whose side surrendered their title to the same opponents, said his squad was injury-free and, instead, was having headaches coming up with the final squad.

“It’s always exciting to play Dynamos as the atmosphere will be electrifying. This is our first final against Dynamos and we hope to win it. We have a full squad complement and the players are looking forward to the match,” he said.

Dynamos assistant coach Tonderai Ndiraya, however, said his side was geared to throw spanners into Motor Action’s works.

“We want to win the cup and that’s not a secret. It’s our hope that by the end of the day on Sunday, the trophy will be in our cabinet. We have no injuries in the team save for captain Desmond Maringwa.

We’ve had players who had knocks, but they’ve all recovered,” said Ndiraya.

His sentiments were echoed by Maringwa who said his club, as “custodians of football in the country”, wanted to win the tournament.

“This is the first time the tournament is being staged, so as custodians of football in the country, we want to win it. We’ve already won the championship and we also want this tournament,” he said.

PSL chief executive officer Kenny Ndebele expressed satisfaction with the way fans were responding to advance ticket sales.

Advance tickets for the rest of the ground cost $2 and the same ticket will cost $3 on match day. Bays 17 and 18 have been demarcated for VIPs, at $20.

“Fans are responding very well to the idea of buying tickets in advance. We are increasing the number of outlets where they can access the tickets.

They can get the tickets at Betta Ball outlets at Ximex Mall, CABS Centre and Joina City. They can also get the tickets at OK outlets.

“The tournament has aroused a lot of excitement,” he said.
