Madzore bail hearing postponed fifth time

The bail application for incarcerated MDC-T youth assembly member, Solomon Madzore, was yesterday postponed for the fifth time – this time to enable the Attorney-General’s (AG) Office and High Court judge Justice Maria Zimba Dube to watch a video submitted by Madzore’s lawyers.

The bail application continued yesterday with the defence lawyer Gift Mtisi submitting Madzore was not on the run at the time of his arrest, contrary to the State’s allegations. The matter was postponed to next week Wednesday.

Mtisi said there were video footages taken prior to Madzore’s arrest where the MDC-T youth leader was captured addressing rallies, at different places, an indication he was always available.

Mtisi told NewsDay: “I am taking the videos to the AG’s Office for prosecutor Edmore Nyazamba to view after which he will forward them to the judge for her to see as well.”

Madzore was arrested early last month for allegedly taking part in the murder of Inspector Petros Mutedza in Glen View in May this year. Twenty seven other MDC-T activists and officials were arrested over the incident.

Twenty of the suspects have been granted bail, but Madzore and seven others are still in custody.
Madzore’s initial bail application was dismissed by Justice Hlekani Mwayera last month on the grounds he was a flight risk.

Meanwhile, another MDC-T activist, Bonface Kudakwashe Muchemwa of Zengeza, who was arrested following the political violence that rocked Chitungwiza, leading to the cancellation of the MDC-T rally, two weeks ago, has been granted bail.

Justice Dube ruled Muchemwa was a good candidate for bail and ordered him to pay $50 and further ordered him to report once at St Mary’s Police Station while residing at the address he supplied to police.

Muchemwa was picked up by police two weeks ago and was charged for allegedly assaulting a Zanu PF supporter, Ever Tatenda Mushonga. He was again represented by Mtisi.
