Negotiators from Zanu PF and the two MDC formations yesterday reaffirmed their commitment to fulfil the agreed positions on the election roadmap ahead of a meeting with South African President Jacob Zuma’s facilitation team on Monday.

But negotiators from the two MDC formations complained that Zanu PF was resisting the appointment of a three-member Sadc team to work with Jomic in monitoring the implementation of the Global Political Agreement.

“That issue will be referred to the principals,” said a negotiator.

“We covered areas we agreed on, but did not implement, such as the legislative agenda.

“We agreed that there was no reason why the agreed positions should not be implemented.

“We will tell the facilitation team that things are under control and there will be no failure on our part to implement.

“The things we have failed to deal with as negotiators, such as security sector reforms, will be dealt with by the principals.”

Yesterday’s meeting was in preparation for the one between the negotiators and the facilitation team, which will be a precursor to the talks between President Zuma and President Robert Mugabe, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara.

Zuma is expected to push the principals to implement all agreed issues as well as find solutions to outstanding ones.
