KADOMA — A 19-year-old Gokwe man, Simbarashe Dzikiriro, who is alleged to have caught his girlfriend being intimate with his cousin before fatally striking him on the head with an axe, appeared in court last week.

Dzikiriro was not asked to plead when he was brought before magistrate Takawira Mugabe, facing murder charges as defined in section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

It is the State’s case that on September 22, 2011 at Kanyemba Farm in Kadoma, the accused bumped into his girlfriend (name not given) having sex with his cousin, identified as Itai Nyakarare.

The exact location was not stated in the court papers. Dzikiriro armed with an axe allegedly struck Nyakarare once on the head and he collapsed.

The now deceased was rushed to Kadoma General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the accused went on the run only to be arrested at his rural home in Gokwe’s Masoro village under Chief Njelele on October 14.

Dzikiriro was remanded in custody to December 1 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court. Reginald Chavora is representing the State in the case.
