USA Women 188 for eight (50 overs) Zimbabwe Women 187 all out (48.5 overs) United States of America Women won by 1 run The Zimbabwe women’s cricket team slumped to their third consecutive loss at the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers after a narrow one-run loss to the USA at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Friday.

Having sent in the USA to bat first after winning the toss, Zimbabwe put themselves looked to have been in a strong position after restricting their opponents to a paltry 188 for eight in their allotted 50 overs.

In reply Zimbabwe staggered in sight of the finishing line before being bowled out for 187 runs in 48.5 overs to finish one run shy of the Americans.

Zimbabwe were yet again let down by their batting department as they lost too many wickets at regular intervals despite batting at well over the required rate for the better part of the match.

Tail-ender Christabel Chatonzwa was left stranded after running out of partners unbeaten on 28 runs while wicketkeeper batsman Nonhlanhla Nyathi chipped in with 26 runs.

However, in the end Zimbabwe’s biggest letdown was the failure by the batsman to convert the good starts into decent scores.

American wicketkeeper-batsman Shebani Bhaskar anchored his team’s innings with 72 runs from 89 balls while Nadia Gruny chipped in with 38 runs.

Seamers Pellagia Mujaji and Hazvinei Saili were the pick of the bowlers for Zimbabwe with two wickets apiece to restrict the Americans to what looked like an easily attainable total.

The loss ended Zimbabwe’s chances of qualifying to the next stage of the competition after earlier losses to Netherlands and Sri Lanka.

The Zimbabwean ladies now look set to finish the tournament winless as they are set to complete their campaign with a tough match against South Africa tomorrow.
