Finance minister Tendai Biti will on Tuesday next week announce the National Budget in Parliament.

The Parliament of Zimbabwe yesterday confirmed through a statement that Biti would announce the 2012 National Budget, projected to be $3,5 billion, at 2:15pm.

Biti faces the mammoth task of satisfying virtually every government department as they believe they are a priority.

Sectors like health, education, agriculture and social services are all clamouring for significant allocations.

At a recent pre-budget seminar in Victoria Falls, Parliament demanded to be allocated funds outside Treasury so that it would not have to queue for funds with government departments.

Speaker of the House of Assembly Lovemore Moyo told MPs and senators that Parliament’s projected annual budgets had been cut by more than 50% over the years.

The Budget formulation processes kicked off months ago with public consultations by the Minister of Finance.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion, chaired by Goromonzi MP Paddy Zhanda, also conducted its own nationwide consultations.
