Two Dynamos supporters died while several others were injured on Sunday morning when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in for a soccer match in Zvishavane burst a left rear tyre and veered off the road before overturning at the 200km peg along the Bulawayo-Masvingo Road.

Police confirmed the accident and said the fans, whose identities were yet to be publicised, were travelling from Bulawayo to Zvishavane to watch the high-profile match between FC Platinum and Dynamos at Mandava Stadium.

Police National Traffic spokesman Inspector Tigere Chigome said the injured were rushed to hospitals in Bulawayo and Zvishavane for treatment.

“The accident occurred at the 200km peg along the Bulawayo– Masvingo Road at about 11am. The vehicle burst its left rear tyre and veered off the road before overturning, killing one person on the spot,” he said. “Another person died at Filabusi Clinic.”

Chigome said the tyre burst could have been caused by the hot weather conditions.

He urged motorists to travel within stipulated speed limits and also ensure their vehicles have good tyres to minimise tyre bursts.

The Dynamos family mourned the death of the supporters using social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
