Police detectives busted a suspected drug syndicate last Wednesday and recovered 9,75kg of dagga, from a motor mechanic, worth nearly $1 000.

Wellington Nyatsanga of Zengeza 4, a mechanic at Bulk Enterprise, situated at Chikwanha Shopping Centre, was picked up by police over the contraband.

It is understood Criminal Investigation Department Drugs Section detectives received information that Nyatsanga was allegedly in possession of dagga at his workplace.

It is alleged the detectives proceeded to the shopping centre where they confronted Nyatsanga and requested to search his offices.

With his consent, the detectives are said to have searched all Bulk Enterprise offices and allegedly recovered 18 plastic bags with loose dagga, hidden behind sofas.

The police seized the contraband and arrested Nyatsanga, who was taken to the police station where the dagga was recorded as having a total weight of 9,75kg with a street value of $975.

Nyatsanga was not asked to plead when he appeared before Chitungwiza provincial magistrate Olivia Mariga, facing a charge of illegal possession of dagga.

He was remanded in custody after the State opposed bail.
