Dinner dances are among popular social activities for cosmopolitan communities but the romantic dances are slowly dying out in Harare.

Joints in the capital have moved to other forms of entertainment at the expense of dinner dances, which have become a preserve for events such as Valentine’s Day.

However, for Adrienne’s Restaurant at Belgravia shopping centre, every Friday is a romantic day following the introduction of dinner dances.

The restaurant hosts dances under candlelight and diners have had memorable experiences since the programme was introduced recently.

Tonight, a special dinner dance event will be held at the restaurant where couples will be treated to romantic music and delicious cuisine.

Restaurant operator Nicholas Mandeya said diners will have spectacular entertainment every Friday. “We have introduced dinner dances to give our diners something special. Friday night experiences will never be the same at Adrienne’s Restaurant,” said Mandeya.

“The dances target mature patrons want to have fun at the weekend in a romantic atmosphere. They can come to dine, wine and dance.”

He said they would invite jazz outfits to perform love ballads for the diners. So far, The Cannibals, Dean Raybould and Derby Fleming have performed at the restaurant and gave diners special moments.

The restaurant, which has been operational since 1985 has hosted largely cosmopolitan dinners. Due to its vicinity to Reps Theatre, show goers often dine and wine at the restaurant before or after shows.

With a mature staff that values traditional and professional hospitality, Adrienne’s Restaurant remains one of therefreshing outing venues in the capital.

In addition to weekend entertainment events, the restaurant serves delicious food. Oxtail dishes are their signature offer while fish dishes are very popular.

Most popular dishes are available at the restaurant.

It has a capacity of 80 sitters and is divided into three partitions to accommodate private functions. “People who want to have private functions can choose a partition and dine separately from the rest.

“Many people doing corporate functions favour this facility. Our gazebo is the most popular partition,” said Mandeya.

The restaurant opens everyday from 12 noon to 10pm.
