Veteran playwright, director and producer Daves Guzha has been appointed to the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) board.

Guzha who is Rooftop Promotions producer will be one of seven public representatives in the new board.

“The prominent artist is also a regional co-ordinator with Artists Trusts of Southern Africa. His experience would be of great importance to the board,” said VMCZ programmes officer, Loughty Dube.

Guzha founded Rooftop Promotions an arts management and promotion house in 1986, as his first move in trying to create employment for actors in Zimbabwe.

The company has made strides in theatre promotion especially through its Theatre in the Park progamme that has seen various plays being staged in the Harare Gardens.

Guzha created a bridge where Rooftop Promotions would be a platform to interface artists of all races.

Also appointed to VMCZ board is seasoned journalist and broadcaster Tapfuma Machakaire who will chair the newly-created ethics committee.

Machakaire serves various media committees and currently chairs the National Journalist and Media Awards adjudicators committee.

He will be deputised by Precious Chakasikwa from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, while experienced journalist and former Standard editor Bornwell Chakaodza is part of the committee.

“The ethics committee will be responsible for encouraging adherence to media ethics and the committee will also be tasked with dealing with issues of gender in the media,” said Dube.
