Shooting Stars captain Elliot Matsika has tipped Dynamos to clinch this year’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) title.

Dynamos lead the chase with 55 points, the same number as second-placed FC Platinum, although the Harare giants have a healthy four-goal advantage.

What has been an intriguing season so far will come to a conclusion this weekend with Dynamos taking on their bogey side Kiglon at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday, the same time FC Platinum will be facing Shooting Stars across town at Gwanzura.

To add to the excitement of the day, the PSL bosses have hired a helicopter which will deliver the trophy to the eventual winners.

The PSL on Wednesday said the helicopter would be stationed at a convenient place ready to fly to either Rufaro or Gwanzura.

For Dynamos to win the title, they will need to beat Kiglon and hope FC Platinum do not beat Shooting Stars by more than five goals.

The log leaders can also win the title even if they draw or lose, depending on FC Platinum recording a similar result in their match.

FC Platinum can win the championship if they beat Shooting Stars and Dynamos draw or lose, or simply score an avalanche of goals to beat Dynamos’ superior goal advantage.

FC Platinum can also win the title even if they draw or lose against the Stars, depending on Dynamos getting clobbered by Kiglon.

Former Dynamos midfielder Matsika said he did not see a “struggling” Kiglon clobbering “fired up” Dynamos.

Matsika was confident his team would beat FC Platinum, a result that would help hand the title to his former club.

“Dynamos have one hand on the title. They are just fired up. I don’t think there is a team in the league that can stand in their way at the moment. Kiglon have proved to be a problem to Dynamos in the past, but with their current form, Dynamos will win the match,” said Matsika.

“I’m a former Dynamos player and I would naturally want them to win the title. I have nothing against FC Platinum, but they will not win the league this season. I don’t see Dynamos losing to Kiglon or Kiglon scoring five goals — that’s impossible,” declared Matsika.

Turning to his team’s clash against FC Platinum, Matsika said: “It’s the last game of the season and we would want to finish it well. We might be going to Division One, but we want to go down with some dignity. We will not hand them the three points on a silver platter. We will go down fighting.”

Shooting Stars played a friendly match against Caps United at the National Sports Stadium yesterday in preparation for the match. The game ended 2-2.

“FC Platinum will be looking to score at least five goals against us. It will be very difficult for them. To be honest with you, they will need a miracle to do that. We are preparing well for the match and our game against Caps United today (Thursday) gave us an insight on where we need to improve,” said Matsika.

Shooting Stars will, however, go into the match without four of their regular players.

Former Dynamos midfielder Edmore Mashiri is out injured while the trio of James Chitereki, Webster Chingodza and Levison Banda is suspended.

While either FC Platinum or Dynamos will be rejoicing for winning the title, one of four teams to be relegated this season would have discovered their fate earlier on Saturday.

The relegation battle is between Shabanie Mine who are on 31 points, Monomotapa on 33 points and Masvingo United who are a point above Monoz.

Monoz host Masvingo at Rufaro while Shabanie will welcome Highlanders at Maglas.

Kiglon, Shooting Stars and Zimbabwe Saints are already relegated.
