Kadoma’s housing and community services director Joel Madzivanyika, who was on an indefinite forced leave to pave way for a full-scale probe into alleged unprocedural sale of housing stands, has resigned amid charges he swindled council large sums of money in a scam involving 21 stands.
He was initially facing charges involving one stand, before a probe was instituted.
Kadoma mayor Councillor Peter Matambo on Monday confirmed Madzivanyika’s resignation.
“The housing director tendered his resignation last week when he was still on forced leave to allow investigations to be conducted into the alleged fraud involving housing stands. We discovered that Madzivanyika, who was facing one charge of illegally acquiring and selling a residential stand, was also involved in the illegal sale of 21 more stands in Mornington, Munhumutapa, Parirenyatwa, Rimuka Annexe, Mshumavale and Ngezi Infill. Council has accepted his resignation,” said the mayor, adding police were continuing with the probe.
Madzvivanyika (43) and co-accused Paradzayi Chipiringo (35) allegedly connived to acquire and sell stand number 5921 Mornington, Kadoma, without following normal council procedures before pocketing $3 500.
They recently appeared for routine remand before magistrate Takawira Mugabe, facing two counts of contravening sections 136 and 174 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23; fraud and criminal abuse of public office respectively.
The pair was remanded to November 21 on $200 bail each.
