Redcliff constituency — MP Isheunesu Muza of Zanu PF. People in this constituency had no kind words for their MP Isheunesu Muza of Zanu PF. Muza was elected in a by-election in 2008.
Since his election Muza has allegedly abandoned his constituency, which is slowly turning into a ghost town owing to the collapse of its nerve centre – Ziscosteel.
What people in Redcliff constituency said about their MP Gibson Nyoni of Redcliff told NewsDay, Muza was only famous for operating the most expensive taxi in the form of his twin-cab truck to ferry people from his constituency, Redcliff to Harare.
“We have not seen any programmes spearheaded by the MP since his election. It is true for us to say we don’t have a representative in the House of Assembly. What we know is the MP has converted his twin-cab vehicle into a private taxi which he uses to ferry passengers from Redcliff to Harare, nearly on a daily basis.
“It is the most expensive taxi we know and he calls it ndege yepasi (ground aeroplane).” He said Muza charged $8 per head for those seated in the front while those in the loading bay of the vehicle — which he allegedly got through the Parliament vehicle scheme for MPs — pay $7, 00 each.
Tawanda Matare of Rutendo called the MP a “Zupco operator”, because he demands payment upfront before one enters his car.
“Muza is also popularly known by touts at the Kwekwe pick-up point and at show grounds, because he asks them to load his car for free,” they said.
Tatenda Moyo, younger brother to former Dynamos football team chairman, Patterson, said he has never met the MP or seen or heard of any of his activities. Moyo said Redcliff was sinking into oblivion owing to investor flight and closure of businesses yet Muza never puts these issues before Parliament.

“This town is rotting, business is very low and companies in this part of town are closing, but Muza has not said or done anything about it. I read the parliamentary Hansard publication and have not come across his contributions on anything, not even the status of this constituency. We need legislation which encourages business investment and to force companies to embark on corporate social responsibility programmes so that society benefits,” said Moyo.
Response by the MP Muza said he would not speak to the Press, but will only attend to the people of Redcliff who voted for him.
Constituency-Harare West – MP Jessie Majome MDC-T Harare West constituency Member of Parliament is (MDC-T)-Jessie Majome who is also the Women Affairs, Gender and Community Affairs deputy minister.
The constituency consists of two wards (16 and 41) that include areas like Mabelreign, Marlborough, Westlea, Avonlea, Greencroft, Goodhope, Emerald Hills and others.
What people said about their MP Clemence Maguta (a resident of Mabelreign) said: “I see Majome as the right MP for this area as she is a sociable person such that whenever we wish to meet her from ward level up to constituency level, she does turn up. She even promised to help us in our Chipochashe Housing Co-operative which we formed last year if the council allocated us land for the project. So far she has funded the electricity project at Westlea Primary School and placed a towerlight at the school.”
Another resident, who only identified himself as Charumbira, a resident of Westlea, said Majome did have interest in developing the area.
“She has her constituency at heart for she pays regular visits to meet us, to listen to our problems and addressing them. She contributed to the borehole drilling project so as to supplement our water system which is not enough for the growing population,” said Charumbira.
A resident from Goodhope who refused to be named said:
“I think our area receives almost the worst services in our constituency. There are no municipal water systems as compared to other areas at this constituency. Electric poles are even falling and these pose danger to residents because we see live wires lying lying around. Our roads are too narrow.
When we had a meeting with the MP, she promised to make sure that the repairs are done, but nothing was done up to now.”
A woman identified as Mai Kachikoti who resides in Marlborough said:
“I am not much into politics, but what I know is that Jessie always comes to address residents. I do not make follow-ups on her promises at the meetings.”
Response by the MP “So far, using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), I have managed to carry out four projects. “I brought supplementary systems for drilling two boreholes in ward 16 and repaired the other one in ward 41. The first borehole was sunk, but the other one is still work in progress. The projects cost at least $7 000 each.
“At Westlea Primary School I funded the electrification project because since 2003 when the school was opened, electricity was only installed at the administration block, but now all classrooms are electrified. I also helped place a towerlight at the school, which cost $2 000. I also procured 40 chairs for Mabelreign and Marlborough clinics. Toilets which were no longer functioning were repaired and I also helped mount a water tank which was donated by UNICEF.
“In my own capacity as MP, and without using CDF money, I donated 1 500 library textbooks for all schools in my constituency and expensive toys which I received from the Spanish Embassy.
“I also planted more than 300 trees at Emerald Hill School for the Deaf and Children’s Home. I also sourced for donor assistance for the institution,” she added.
