Renowned actress Tinopona Katsande has dropped out of the cast of the play John Mambo’s Two Wives, which is running at Theatre in the Park.

In a statement Rooftop Promotions said Katsande had dropped due to personal reasons and has been replaced by another actress.

“Rooftop Promotions would like to advise that Tinopona Katsande, a member of the cast in the play The Two Wives of John Mambo currently running at Theatre in the Park has dropped out due to personal issues,” reads the statement.

Katsande, who had been absent for two consecutive days, is said to have advised the management at Rooftop Promotions to recast her role as she was no longer able to fulfil her contractual obligations.

Dalma Chiwereva, popular for her role in the movie Lobola among numerous other local productions, has replaced Katsande.

“In her debut appearance in a theatre production, Rooftop Promotions is confident that she (Chiwereva) will fit in well. She assumes the role of Gladys which was previously being played by Evangelista Mwatse while the latter takes over Tinopona’s role as Laiza, John Mambo’s second wife,” said the producer of the play.

Katsande confirmed she dropped out of the cast and said it was a strictly personal decision.

“I needed to take the decision and it was purely personal. I am now based in Johannesburg as you might know and I had returned home for some personal business and coincidentally got involved in the play. But something came up and I have to return to South Africa,” she said.

The play which had been suspended resumed on Friday and ended on Saturday.
