A 22-year-old Chipinge man reportedly stabbed his eight-year-old brother to death several times using a kitchen knife last week in a spine-chilling tragedy that has left residents of Maparadza village deeply shocked.

The suspect has since allegedly fled the village and remains at large.

Police have confirmed the murder which took place at Maparadza village under Chief Garahwa.

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Leonard Chabata said on October 24 this year at around 7am, Liberty Maruku (22) had a misunderstanding with his eight-year-old brother.

“The older brother felt insulted by the younger brother following the misunderstanding between them. He then abruptly produced a kitchen knife. Without saying a word he stabbed him once on the throat and several times in the stomach and hands. The eight-year-old boy died on the spot,” Chabata said.

He said their mother was away in the field when the incident happened. Neighbours who witnessed the incident rushed to the field to inform her of what had happened.

They said when she arrived home she saw her younger son lying in a pool of blood and by then the older brother had fled their homestead and his whereabouts are still unknown.

Police urged people to solve their differences amicably and avoid unnecessary loss of life.
