Zimbabwe is participating at the annual China International Travel Mart (CITM) 2011 being held in Kunming, China.

The three-day Travel Mart which kicked off yesterday will end on Sunday. CITM is the biggest professional travel expo in Asia which attracts players in the travel industry including international and domestic tourist organisations, travel agencies, hotels, airlines and other travel-related organisations.

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), Zimbabwe’s destination marketing organ, is representing Zimbabwe at the exhibition.

ZTA joined forces with representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and hospitality industry, African Sun, Air Zimbabwe, and Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority in showcasing Zimbabwe’s brands.

ZTA chief executive Karikoga Kaseke said: “This is a target market that the authority would like to acquaint itself with. These Asian tigers have their economy ranking among the greatest globally. This being the case, it ensures that Zimbabwe can tap into this economy by luring a significant percentage of tourists to come to Zimbabwe.”

He said the Zimbabwean stand was a force to reckon with as it is outstanding.

“The Zimbabwe stand is standing tall in the exhibition hall and is too visible to be ignored as it is endowed with the wonders of the country. It therefore becomes a microcosm of the tourism brand ‘Zimbabwe A World of Wonders’,” he said.

CITM is a platform for one-on-one encounters between Zimbabwe and other tourist boards and numerous tourism players from across the globe.

The show can also be used as a recruitment bureau for buyers and media practitioners for Zimbabwe’s travel expo, the Sanganai/Hlanganani Africa Travel and Tourism Fair.

Several meetings with international tourism boards, travel agents, airlines and tour operators are being held at the show along with a series of media interviews which indicates the vast interest that the world has with the destination “Zimbabwe A World of Wonders”.

“The ZTA is poised to benefit immensely from CITM as we have booked large exhibition space unlike during previous years. This asserts us as a force to reckon with as it reflects that we are enlarging our territory in as far as tourism is concerned.” Kaseke said.
