Ignatius Mketekete ended a remarkable week to complete his second consecutive title after clinching the third and final leg of the NetOne Golf Series by a massive eight shots at the Borrowdale Brooke Golf Course on Friday.

The in-form Mketekete, who leads the Golden Pilsener Zambezi Tour money list, was on top of the leader board after finishing on 17 under par.

It was Mketekete’s second win inside a week after his play-off victory at the FSG Lowveld Pro-am in Triangle and Hippo Valley last weekend.

“It’s nice to have come out on top again this weekend. I was hitting the ball pretty well throughout the 54 holes, but the opening round 62 helped me calm down and play my normal game for the rest of the tournament,” he said.

Mketekete said his immediate plans were now to make an impact on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa.

“I feel that I’m on top of my game at the moment and my plans are to move to the Sunshine Tour and hopefully make an impact there as well,” Mketekete said. He finished in a tie for sixth place on the Sunshine recently at the KCM Zambia Open.

Seasoned campaigner Tongo Charamba was in second place on nine under par two shots ahead of Philip Tshuma who finished on seven under par.

Tied for fourth place were Shane Pringle and Mick Hough, who finished on four under par while Ryan Cairns was in sixth place on six under par.

It was an exciting conclusion to the trilogy of the NetOne Golf series that teed off in Bulawayo.

Mketekete again emerged victorious by one shot at Bulawayo Golf Country Club in July.

The mobile phone services provider bankrolled this year’s tournament to the tune of $25 000 which saw more than 40 professional golfers braving the scorching heat in the plush suburb of Borrowdale since Thursday.

NetOne has, over the years, steadily increased the prize fund for its trademark professionals Tour and ProAms.

Charamba applauded NetOne’s efforts towards developing the sport of golf.

“We thank NetOne for well- organised golf tournaments which we always love to play in. While we obviously appreciate the ever-bulging purse from NetOne, as players we also cherish at most the relationship NetOne has built and maintained with us professionals.

“This has brought confidence in us the players and also the amateurs who participate in these tournaments,” he said.
