Castle Lager Premier Soccer League championship contenders Dynamos face a potential banana skin in an epic battle against Hwange at the Colliery on Sunday as they seek to close the gap on log leaders FC Platinum.

Dynamos are a point behind FC Platinum who have 49 points.

Chipangano are fourth on the log table with 43 points and would not be pushovers, especially in front of their home fans.

Dynamos have been playing some attacking football since Calisto Pasuwa took over, but they still have to prove their critics wrong by winning away from home.

So far, they have not won away in the league race, but on Sunday, they qualified for the semi-finals of the Mbada Cup after they dismissed struggling Shooting Stars 3-0 at Maglas Stadium.

Suspended Rodreck Mutuma was on target together with Tawanda Muparati and Denver Mukamba — the same key players that Pasuwa will look to deliver away from Rufaro and at the same time get the better of veteran goalkeeper Timothy Sibanda.

Hwange technical manager Tennant Chilumba yesterday said they were treating Dynamos like any other team in the league.

“On paper it’s a very big game, but to us it’s a normal game. It’s like playing any team in the league. It’s going to be a good game as the top four teams are still in the championship race. We are all still in the race depending on which team loses, wins or draws,” he said.

“We have been playing well of late and Dynamos are enjoying good form. They cleaned up their house like we did and that has contributed to the good results. There is no interference in the technical department anymore. We expect an exciting match.”

Hwange forced a goalless draw against the Harare giants in the first round of league matches at Rufaro Stadium in April and will now seek maximum points at home.
