after he was caught pants down bedding the minor inside the victim’s family home.

Their world collapsed after the girl’s father arrived home unannounced and found them in a compromising position inside his bedroom.

The incident occurred on October 5. The man visited his cousin’s residence and found her alone.

The girl invited him into her father’s bedroom where they both stripped naked and started cuddling . At that particular moment, the girl’s father pounced on the two and found them in the nude.

He ordered them to dress up and upon quizzing his daughter about what he had just witnessed, she told him the affair started when she was aged 12.

The girl further told her father that this year alone she had had sexual intercourse with her cousin seven times.

The matter was reported to police, leading to the man’s arrest.

The man pleaded guilty when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Barbra Chimboza last Wednesday, charged with having sexual intercourse with a person below the aqge of consent.

“When accused started having sexual intercourse with the complainant, she was just 12 years old and accused was 22 years old and the age difference was 10 years,” Chimboza said.

“This law was put in place to protect such young persons from sexual exploitation,” she said before sentencing the man to a 12-month jail term.

“The aggravatory factors outweigh the mitigatory factors and as such only a custodial sentence is appropriate,” the magistrate added.

She suspended six months from the total sentence on condition of good behaviour.

The man will serve an effective six-month jail term.
