At least 150 delegates are expected to attend the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) congress to be held in Nyanga next week.

The two-day congress under the theme, “Rebranding HAZ and Generating Transformation Momentum,” is scheduled for October 27-28.

HAZ president elect Tich Hwingiri said the congress comes at a time when a lot of changes had been registered in the economy. He said HAZ was working on a strategic document for the sector.

“We will use the annual general to share experiences and work on the resolutions on the last day of the congress,” Hwingiri said.

He said the association’s website will be launched and the HAZ logo unveiled at the congress. Tourism and Hospitality minister Walter Mzembi and Federated Hospitality Association of Southern Africa president Eddie Khosa will attend the congress.

Hwingwiri said the Angolan and Sudanese ambassadors are expected to grace the occasion. The association has invited Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Zimbabwe Council for Tourism, Zesa, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority and Environmental Management Agency for its open forum question-and-answer sessions.

Last year the congress was held in Bulawayo under the theme “Refocusing Hospitality –Back to Basics” that was focusing on making the industry prepared for the revival of the sector.

HAZ will also present five awards to the sector at the congress, which include HAZ Hospitality, Creewel Plate, David Geddes, Eric Chademana and Charles Bvunzawabaya awards.
