Poetry Bulawayo, an organisation set up to promote budding and established poets in the city, will this Friday evening hold a “Poetry Potpourri” session at Amal Restaurant.

The organisation’s founder and creative director Mgcini Nyoni said the aim of Friday’s session, which will feature 12 poets, was to “expose new talent and give a platform to established poets an opportunity to polish their act”.

Nyoni said Poetry Bulawayo believed it was essential to give poets an opportunity to showcase their live performance skills. This will be the third time this year that the organisation holds a poetry session.

In June, they held their first show at Bunandi Café, followed by another one at Amal Restaurant, situated at the Bulawayo Athletics Club, in August.

Nyoni said he was impressed by the level of support shown by poetry lovers.

Poets taking part in Friday’s session include Bhekumusa Moyo, Solwazi Nkiwane, Tumelo Ncube, Mthabisi Phili, Philani Nyoni, Thelma Katt, Tswarelo Mothobe, Rea Moyo, Nomakhosazana “Zana’Kay” Ncube, Siphosethu “Sypho” Mpofu, Brian “Soulfamilya” Bangura as well as Nyoni himself.
