Zifa Northern Region Division One surprise package Harare City is just a match away from realising their dream of playing Premiership football next season.

Harare City started the season on a slow note and at one time looked like they were relegation contenders, but a drastic change of fortunes in recent weeks has seen them moving up the ladder.

Only some five weeks ago, they were seated somewhere in the middle of the table, but a decent run of form, helped by some inconsistency in the top teams saw them assuming top position with a crucial 1-0 over Highfield United two weeks ago. They haven’t looked back since.

Their 2-1 win over ZPC on Saturday saw them maintaining their pole position with 48 points, two above second-placed Black Rhinos.

What is left for Harare City is to collect maximum points against ninth placed Eiffel Flats next week and they will be rubbing shoulders with the big boys of the country’s football.

While an upset cannot be ruled out in such kind of match, for Harare City the clash looks very winnable. Only one team will get automatic promotion into the top flight while three will be relegated to Division Two.

Basement sides Cossy Rules, Commando Bullets and Karoi United have already been confirmed as the three teams headed for the unfashionable third division.

But while the relegation teams have been confirmed, the league winner will only be known right on the last day of fixtures with five teams still gunning for the sole ticket. Besides Harare City, Rhinos (46 points),

Mwana Africa (46 points) and La Liga at 45 points, still have a mathematical chance of winning it.

Sixth-placed DStv Rangers — whose match against Eiffel Flats was abandoned due to crowd trouble on Saturday — has 44 points.

If the disciplinary hearing set to sit anytime this week to deliberate on the match rule in their favour, they will move to second position, just a point away from the log leaders.

Zifa Northern Region Division One final week fixtures: Commando v DC Academy, Flame Lilly v Mwana Africa, DStv v BACA, Harare City v Eiffel Flats, La Liga v ZPC Kariba, Black Rhinos v Highfield United, Karoi United v Cossy Rules
