Shabanie Mine coach Luke Masomere has issued a passionate appeal to the Zvishavane community to throng Maglas Stadium in hordes tomorrow and rally behind the asbestos miners when they take on defending champions Motor Action in their battle for Premiership survival.

Masomere, staring the barrel of relegation in the face, yesterday called for unity between Shabanie, Masvingo United and FC Platinum fans and urged them to come together and help Chinda Boys’ cause.

Apart from Shabanie and Platinum fans, Zvishavane is also home to a few Masvingo United supporters. Masomere has deep roots at Yuna Yuna.

“I urge all football fans in Zvishavane to come in their numbers and support us in our fight against relegation. It does not matter even if they are Masvingo United or FC Platinum supporters,” appealed Masomere.

“We greatly need their support. Masvingo are playing away and so are Platinum, so why can’t their fans come and rally behind us? We stay in the same town and in situations like this one we have to be united. Why should we be enemies or rivals in times of need? Yes, we can be enemies when we play against each other, but sometimes we must unite and assist each other.”

Ironically, Shabanie and Platinum clash next weekend in a match where they will not be kind to each other, as the asbestos miners will be continuing their survival campaign, while their neighbours will be eager to shrug off their title challengers Dynamos and Motor Action.

Shabanie’s opponents, Motor Action, also keen to get back on track, won the reverse fixture 3-0 in Harare in April.

Masomere said that was what makes tomorrow’s clash a blood-and-thunder encounter and again vowed his side would not go down to the first division.

“Our greatest worry is that we are fighting to avoid relegation while they (Motor Action) are the champions who want to defend their title.

“Both teams have different missions. Ours is to restore our Premiership status while theirs is to retain the championship. But we are a Premier League team as well so what can stop us from winning? But let me say th is once again, come season end will not be relegated,” he added.
