Dynamos are banking on their son, Moses “Bambo” Chunga, to do them a big favour by stopping log leaders FC Platinum, as the Gunners mentor faces former Warriors teammate Rahman Gumbo in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) match at Lafarge on Saturday afternoon.

This match is important to Gunners. If they win, they will move closer to their target of finishing the season among the best four PSL teams, but more crucially, this match will help shape the destiny of the league title.

If FC Platinum manages to win against a team that humiliated them 3-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this year, they will open a seven-point lead against their nearest rivals Dynamos who host Highlanders at Rufaro Stadium 24 hours later.

But, if the Zvishavane-based team fall again and Dynamos manages retribution against a team that beat them in the Uhuru final in April, the gap will be reduced to just one point.

FC Platinum has 49 points while Dynamos are four points behind going into the weekend matches.

Gunners, on the other hand are sixth on the log with 38 points and a win today coupled by losses by Hwange and Highlanders will see them occupying the coveted fourth position. Chunga might be asking for a kickback from his former club after today’s match.

Earlier this week, Bambo stoked the flames ahead of the match when he told NewsDay Sport he is prepared to burst the wealthy platinum miners’ bubble.

“Both teams want three points, but we will do everything we can to make sure we win. I cannot promise anything at the moment, but I will just do my job in a commendable manner,” said Chunga.

Gumbo’s men come into the match without the suspended duo of Mthulisi Maphosa and Charles Sibanda for stabbing and assault cases respectively.

Veteran midfielder Mernard Mupera is available for selection after serving a one-match suspension last week.

In addition, Platinum can rely on former Gunner Norman Maroto, bustling youngster Donald Ngoma and the experienced trio of Benjamin Marere, Thabani Kamusoko and Bheki Ncube for three points.
