The bail application of incarcerated MDC-T youth assembly president Solomon Madzore and party secretary for home affairs Taruvinga Magaya, who were arrested over the murder of Police Inspector Petros Mutedza early this year, is expected to be heard at the High Court today.
Madzore and Magaya were arrested and remanded in custody when they appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court last week.
Justice Hlekani Mwayera is expected to preside over the bail application which failed to take place last Friday after the State requested for time to file opposing papers.
Yesterday the State filed the opposing papers and today both the State and the defence are due to make submissions before Justice Mwayera makes a determination.
Madzore and Magaya bring the total of MDC-T members who have been arrested over the same case to 28. Nine of them have been denied bail and are behind bars.
Meanwhile, former MDC-T councillors Warship Dumba and Casper Takura, who were being charged with fraud for misusing council fuel, have been set free. The two applied for refusal of further remand arguing there were no reasonable grounds that they committed the alleged offence.
Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei granted the application in their favour and set them free.
