It is rare chance to have five popular musicians in the country in one house when the business of the day is not music.

Recently, Chipaz Promotions invited Oliver Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso, Suluman Chimbetu, Winky D and Tongai Moyo, who was represented by his lieutenant Shiga Shiga, for lunch at the plush Garwe Restaurant in Eastlea.

For many that witnessed the musicians share a meal, it was a rare sight yet so exciting and refreshing.

Those that shared the table with the celebrities could not but marvel as the musicians cracked one joke after another.

They jovially engaged each other, giving other diners a marvelous spectacle.

Even their choice of dishes was interesting. The table had numerous traditional relishes ranging from “roadrunner” chicken, mazondo, fish, guinea fowl meat, goat meat, T-bone steak, kidneys, liver and different sadza varieties as well as rice with peanut butter, among others.

The musicians sampled all dishes and seemed to enjoy their meal immensely.

Among other things that were discussed at the table was the issue of a collaborative song requested by the organiser of the forthcoming show Patson Chimbodza.

“I thank you all for making time to come and dine with us. I know it is difficult to create time for such a gathering as all of you have many other important businesses to attend to.

“I hereby request to our musicians here that on the night of the show they play for us at least one collaboration song which all the musicians will sing,” said Chipaz.

In her speech at the luncheon Mandy Mvukwe, proprietress of the restaurant, said she was hounoured to host the musicians.

“I would like to thank Chipaz Promotions for affording our restaurant the rare chance of hosting the best Zimbabwean musicians at one go.

“We always go to their shows but never had we sat at one table with the likes of Macheso and Tuku,” said Mvukwe.

The restaurant has hosted international celebrities like Akon, Beenie Man and Brick and Lace.

“We have hosted international celebrities and it is a good idea to also have local celebrities as they prepare for their local shows. It is a way of creating a bond between artists and we would like to see it happening more often.”

Mtukudzi, Macheso, Moyo, Chimbetu and Winky D will share the stage tomorrow at Andy Millar Hall. Meanwhile, Garwe Restaurant won the Best Restaurant of the Year award at National Tourism Awards held in Masvingo on Wednesday.

Mvukwe said they are proud for such recognition.

“Winning in a competition that featured some prestigious restaurants in tourist resorts is a great achievement for us. We are very proud of this and we will keep up the excellent standards.”
