Former City of Harare councillors, Warship Dumba and Casper Takura, who were recently expelled by Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo for alleged corruption, have been arrested for alleged fraud.

The two were arrested and detained at Mabvuku Police Station.

Their lawyer Gift Mtisi confirmed the arrests. “Takura was arrested on Monday evening while Dumba was arrested this afternoon (yesterday) when he came to check on Takura at the Serious Frauds Section. They are facing charges of fraud involving $293 each,” said Mtisi.

Allegations are that the two were dishonest in claiming travelling allowances for an-out-of-town meeting.

They were initially suspended before they were subsequently expelled by Chombo in a move that created tension between the minister and his deputy Sesel Zvidzai, who accused his boss of running the ministry like his bedroom.
