A Nyamandlovu man was arrested and taken to court after he allegedly assaulted his former wife at a beer drink for turning down his advances.

Robert Ncube (35) was not asked to plead to assault when he briefly appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Gideon Ruvetsa sitting at the Nyamandlovu Circuit Court.

Ncube was remanded out of custody to October 6 on $30 bail.

Charges against him are that on September 20 at around 10pm, he visited a local bottle store in Nyamandlovu for a beer drink.

When he arrived, he found his former wife also drinking beer there. He allegedly approached her claiming she was still his wife, but she spurned him. Ncube reportedly became angry and hit her once with a fist on the mouth and pinned her against the wall.

She sustained injuries and made a police report. Also appearing before the same magistrate was a man who assaulted a neighbour following an argument over a scotch-cart.

Thamsanqa Tshabalala, whose age was not given in court, was fined $50 or 15 days in prison for the assault.

Tshabalala borrowed a scotch- cart from his neighbour and after using it he returned it with some defects. However, he did not tell the owner about this.

The complainant then loaded firewood onto his scotch-cart and discovered it had developed faults.

He confronted Tshabalala about the issue, but he became angry and armed himself with a stick. Tshabalala struck the complainant once on the head and he sustained a cut.

A police report was made, leading to Tshabalala’s arrest.
