The usually serene picturesque town of Chiredzi is expected reverberate to popular gospel music as a stellar line-up of gospel music heavyweights open a gospel concert at Tsvovani Stadium on Saturday.

The show is expected to offer the gospel music “starved” Chiredzi residents a chance to meet gospel music sensations who include Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, ever-rising Joyce Simeti, Gospel Power and upcoming star Innocent Gakaka.

Isaac Zinyongo, general manager of Tehillah Promotions who are organising the show, revealed the concert is one of many to come.

“We have just begun our national tour and next time we will be in Masvingo,”said Zinyongo.

“Apart from spreading the Word of God, the concerts are also meant to empower gospel musicians in the country.

“Gospel musicians are being neglected by potential promoters compared to genres like sungura and dancehall and it’s a pity to note that in Zimbabwe we are having a lot of shows by international artists.

“So we have arranged a number of concerts for gospel artists and the proceeds will be shared among the musicians.”

Simeti, one of the gospel musicians destined to perform in Chiredzi, said she was raring to go. “We will be belting it out at Tsvovani Stadium and fans must expect a thrilling show,” she said.

Zvakavapano-Mashavave, who has introduced mbira instruments in some of her songs, is expected to prove her prowess as an experienced gospel diva.

Chitungwiza-based Gospel Power of Kana Zvamubata fame will also dish out songs from their latest album Achapindura.

Chiredzi has become the hunting ground for many gospel artists.

Recently gospel musicians like Kudzi yakudya, Olinda Marova and other upcoming acts held a show at the same venue.
